Jody grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina, with a strong work ethic, balancing her schoolwork with jobs like driving a school bus and working in the local drugstore. Her love of sports, especially soccer, led her to coach girls’ soccer, nurturing young athletes with the same dedication and enthusiasm she brings to her professional and public service endeavors. Jody has always been passionate about athletics and remains an avid runner, visible on early morning runs in Sandy Springs. She has completed 27 marathons, including the Boston Marathon twice. A strong proponent of youth sports, Jody is determined to developing additional playing fields and expand sports programs in Sandy Springs to inspire and support the next generation of competitive and recreational athletes of all ages.
After earning a degree in economics and business from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, Jody moved into the financial sector, working for Fleet Finance and later Private Business, Inc. Her career path evolved as she focused on real estate investment, where she found a way to create value and options in her community by developing and marketing stable rental housing. As the sole owner of a thriving real estate investment business focused on rental properties, Jody ensures that her tenants enjoy all of the benefits of affordable, long-term, high-quality housing.
Beyond her professional achievements, Jody is deeply committed to philanthropy and civic engagement. Jody founded and has led for 30 years the holiday gift project for Jewish Family and Career Services, bringing the joy of the holidays to hundreds of families in need during Christmas and Hanukkah. In recognition of her enduring commitment to and lasting impact on families served by JF&CS, she was honored with the Mary and Max London People Power Award in 2022. Additionally, Jody remains actively involved in the Sandy Springs nonprofit community, dedicating her time and resources to supporting numerous organizations. She serves on the Board of Leadership Perimeter and the Fulton County Community Zoning Board and is an active member of the Chamber of Commerce.
Jody has also been deeply involved with North Springs High School, where she served as PTO president and played a significant role in leading various renovation and improvement projects. She was instrumental in the nearly nine-year effort to secure a new building for the school, a testament to her dedication to public education. As a mother of two North Springs graduates, Carly and Jay, Jody has a personal connection to the school system and remains a vocal advocate for preserving and improving local schools.
Jody is focused on economic development and seeks to collaborate with financially secure developers to transform Sandy Springs into a more vibrant, walkable and livable city, investing in our infrastructure while expanding our parks, green spaces and recreational facilities. Public safety is a vital priority for Jody, as is attracting new businesses that can create good-paying jobs. As a businessperson and philanthropist, she fiercely supports the small businesses and nonprofits that make Sandy Springs thrive and will stand firm against projects that waste taxpayer dollars. In business and public service, Jody believes in practical initiatives to bring measurable value to the community, setting clear and specific goals to deliver them and accountability for results.
Jody resides in Mt. Vernon Woods with her husband, Ken, who recently retired after a long career as a business, finance, and tax advisor, and their two rowdy puppies. They share four adult children, whom they hope will one day all live in Sandy Springs.
